How do you change a spark plug on a Mercury outboard?

How do you change a spark plug on a Mercury outboard?

Pull the spark plug wire from its push-on/pull-off connection on the capacitor discharge module. Pull the other end of the wire from the top of the spark plug. Push the straight end of the new plug wire onto the connection on the capacitor discharge module and push the end with the 90-degree bend on the top of the spark plug.

Where are the spark plug wires on a boat?

Running from the capacitor discharge module to the spark plugs, the spark plug wires carry the electrical charge from your boat’s coil to the plugs that are found in the top of the motor’s cylinders. A bad spark plug wire will make your motor misfire, waste fuel or, if there are several bad wires, refuse to start.

How do you change the spark plug wire?

Trace the spark plug wire from the plug to the capacitor discharge module associated with that plug. There will be one module per plug. Pull the spark plug wire from its push-on/pull-off connection on the capacitor discharge module. Pull the other end of the wire from the top of the spark plug.

How to change spark plug wires in a Mercury outboard?

Turn the multimeter on and touch the red multimeter probe to the tan-and-blue wire on the warning module horn and the black probe to the engine block, to test for continuity. If the circuit has continuity, that is, its resistance is less than 210 ohms, replace the ECM.

How often should you replace spark plugs on a MerCruiser?

Route the wires neatly. Most engines have wire brackets which keep the wires away from hot surfaces. Replace your plug wires every 3 to 5 years or sooner if needed. Some older inboard Mercruiser engines might have a reverse fire order so make sure to confirm your engine rotation.
