If I stop the vehicle the regen will restart when exhaust temps come up and it will stop at about 2-4 grams of soot. Regen temps are also measured as a way of telling if the injector is working. If it calls for a regen and the temps don’t come up I think a message will be displayed or a code thrown.

The diesel tech did not re-connect the CTS after he completed the repairs – probably a “GM thing”. P2463 came back up Monday when I was driving the truck.

Exhaust soot is the product of incomplete combustion, the soot is actually partially burned fuel. Soot creates back pressure and the regeneration is triggered and your headaches begin.
