Have car in the shop today for something else and was told there is a RECALL on the shifter knob so they are taking care of it. From the different threads it sounds like they start to break around 25-26K miles. Mine is still fine so maybe it’s just in time. No open recalls… Click to expand…
What to do if shift knob on CRV breaks?
Using a small flat-head screwdriver, push in the locking tab on the side of the shift knob button, and gently wiggle it away from the knob. NOTES • Be careful not to lose the spring. • The tab may break while being removed. • If the shift knob button is broken, remove it and make sure there is no debris left inside.

Automakers have to consider numerous factors when they’re manufacturing their cars, which is why most factory shift knobs are drab and mundane. Although some sports cars do have nicer options, very few will feel as good as an aftermarket shift knob.
