Why does the engine cooling fan not turn off?
Why does the engine cooling fan not turn off?
I was wondering if anyone knows why the engine cooling fan does not go off when you turn engine off. We had to pull the fuse that is under hood on top of battery. Once we pulled it, it went off, but when we put it back in the fan started up again. Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated. 50 people found this helpful.
When does the HVAC fan turn on and off?
In normal operation, when your thermostat is set to “auto,” it will tell the blower fan plus the heating or cooling components to turn on and off at the same time when the desired temperature is reached. In many systems, the blower fan runs a minute or so before heating or cooling begins and ends to get air flowing.
What should I do if my fan is not turning off?
Scroll down to `Processor Power Management` > `System Cooling Policy` (Expand them both to view the options). Under `System Cooling Policy` > Change `On Battery` and `Plugged In` to ‘Passive`. Save the setting and restart the system. The fans should start functioning normally. Please reply if the issue persists.

Why is the cooling fan not working?
If you think the cooling fan isn’t working because your temperature gauge is indicating overheating , open the hood, start the engine, and let it idle for 15 to 20 minutes. If the fan comes on, you may have a bad temperature sensor or gauge .
Why is the engine cooling fan not working?
The temperature sensor determines when the radiator fan comes on by reading the cooling system temperature. If the sensor isn’t working, your fan won’t come on because it won’t know that the temperature is hot enough to require activation, which can frequently lead to overheating.
What cause a cooling fan not to run?
7 Causes of Radiator Fan Is Not Coming On Broken Fuse A fuse supports almost everything electrical in a car. Faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor There are often two different systems in different car models. Broken Wiring or Bad connection If the fan is not working even when the car is overheating, there might be a wiring issue or a bad connection.
What causes the radiator fans to stop working?
The most common causes when a radiator fan is not coming on is broken fuse, bad wirings, bad coolant temperature sensor, bad fan relay , or a faulty radiator fan . Here is a more detailed list of the most common causes of a radiator fan not coming on.
What happens if you have a bad cooling fan relay?
The check engine light illuminating may indicate a faulty cooling fan relay. A faulty cooling fan relay can also negatively affect air conditioning (A/C) performance. The reason being, on most vehicles, is that the cooling fan doubles as a condenser fan.
What to do if your computer cooling fan won’t run?
Replace the cooling fan relay with a new one. A stuck closed relay is the only thing that can operate the cooling fan continuously with the key off. The computer looses power with the key off and the same applies to the coolant temperature sensor. The relay, however, has direct power to one side, the same as a light switch.
What should I do if my radiator fan is not working?
A blown fuse is no big deal, and changing one does not cost a lot of money. If your car’s radiator fan is non-functional, check your car’s user manual and locate the fuse for the radiator fan controller or the fan. The fan itself often uses a big fuse of around 50A, while there might also be a separate small fuse to the fan control module.

When to troubleshoot an electric car cooling fan?
On a warm engine, the fan may come on even if the engine is not running. When working on a hot engine or an engine that is running, keep your hands and tools away from the fan blades and moving components. Troubleshooting a cooling fan that doesn’t work can be a relatively straightforward task at times.
When to turn on the cooling fan relay?
The cooling fan relay is an electromagnetic switch that controls the power supply to the engine’s cooling fans. It ensures that the energy-intensive devices only run when needed, usually when the vehicle is immobile. When the engine temperature approaches unsafe levels, the vehicle’s computer or temperature switch turns on the cooling fan relay.

Why does my oven fan turn off when I Turn Off the oven?
Its a very crude thermostat, when a given temp is achieved it activates a metallic strip winch makes contact and connects the fan, as the oven cools the metal strip should move back to its default position and break the circuit. If you remove the oven and take the rear panel off its often screwed on to one of the elements.
When does a computer fan turn on and off?
The computer turns the cooling fan on and off when it receives a temperature indication from the coolant temperature sensor. When the temperature exceeds a specific value — usually 215 degrees Fahrenheit — the computer will turn the fan on.
Is it OK to leave the cooling fan on when the engine is turned off?
Car Fan Still On When Engine is Turned Off You park your car, turn off the ignition and start walking away. Then you notice the engine cooling fan is still running even though the car is turned off. It is ok for the engine cooling fan to keep running for a few minutes after turning off the car.
