Why does my RPMs go down when I turn?

Why does my RPMs go down when I turn?

The idle air control valve is a small valve on the engine’s intake system that reads the air intake as it comes into the motor. When this happens, the job of the idle air control valve is to bring this deceleration down to a slow and smooth idle rather than suddenly cutting off the fuel supply causing the motor to die.

How often does engine RPM drop when idle?

The engine stays idling at about 1000 RPM. However every now and then it drops down to about 500 RPM and then quickly back up to about 1200 then goes slowly down to 1000 and stays there for a bit until I go again or it drops again. It only happens for a second or two and about 3 times a minute.

How does the idle speed of a car work?

This valve is controlled by the vehicle’s computer which will adjust idle speed based upon other measurements such as engine temperature, intake air temperature and electrical system load or voltage. When you accelerate, the engine RPM increases, and as you let off the gas, the RPM slowly returns to the normal idling speed.

What should idle speed be after camshaft change?

There is no reason to simply increase idle speed from 800 rpm to 1,000 rpm after a camshaft change when a little extra calibration time allows the engine to be stable at 850 rpm. Careful control of fuel delivery, airflow mapping, and spark compensation are the keys.

What happens if the idle level is too low?

Idle level too low. If the idle level on your (warmed up) engine is lower than the level decided by the manufactorer, you will usually have two problems: – The oil pressure inside the engine will be very low, and you may see the oil pressure lamp flicker. – Charcoal cannister in the tank ventilation line clogged by fuel or dirt.

How does idle speed work on a Camaro?

Idle speed screw is 1-2 turns in from when it touches the stop. Air fuel mixture screws are 1-1/4 turn out from seated. Transfer slot has the proper ~0.020 little square exposed. So timing looks pretty good (as good as I can get it), but I still have a huge rpm drop from 1,000rpm in park to 600rpm in gear.

What’s the RPM drop from Park to in gear?

I am experiencing a large rpm drop of approximately 400rpm from in park (1,000rpm) to in-gear (600rpm). Medium/light dizzy spring combo (light/light spring combo gave advance at idle) which saw 32 total timing @ 4,000rpm and 34 total timing @ 4,500rpm.

Is the throttle internals of a gasoline engine Dirty?

I am presuming this is a gasoline engine. If so, the symptoms sound very much like the throttle internals are dirty.
