Why does my Dodge Ram make a noise when I reverse?

There is no tire rub visible and no rub marks. The sound goes away at higher speeds and is louder at lower speeds. From park to reverse or drive it seems to have some resistance. Any ideas? my noise was the front driveline U joint. the way figured it out was,when I put it in 4 wheel drive it got worse.
