Why did I accidentally touch positive battery terminal?

Why did I accidentally touch positive battery terminal?

I wanted to make sure the connections were tight on my battery and I started to tighten the positive terminal with the little wrench included in the toolkit and as I was making sure the little bolt was tight, LOTS of sparks flew (and crackling) and it scared the hell out of me. The negative terminal was connected as well at the time this happened.

Can a wrench touch both battery terminals, now ignition dead?

Wrench touched both battery terminals, sparks, now ignition is dead. HELP! I installed a new primary battery in my 2004 236 Sunesta which I have done many times.

Where does the positive wire go on a starter?

The positive wire only goes to the starter and the charge wire only to the alternator and the other wires to a fuse link holder. The negative only goes to the block and the frame rail. If the start motor wire is on and touching the other lug that just will mean the starter will run when you connect the battery.

How many ohms does an AutoZone alternator read?

Autozone tested the alternator twice and both times reported good. They also tested the battery to be good (it’s only a few months old). Tested the continuity of the wire that runs from alternator to battery and that is good. It read around .5 ohms.

Is there a bad fuse in my alternator?

The car runs fine when connected to my truck via jumper cables, but acts as one would expect when there are alternator problems. I have checked all fuses in the fuse box, to include the 10a “GEN/BATT” fuse that I have been told is the alternator fuse. I have not found any to be bad.

What happens when a battery connection is loose?

ANY loose connection will result in a variation of resistance across the connection from 0 for a solid connection to ∞ or open circuit depending on the degree of looseness. With 0 resistance the joint is cold, no voltage is dropped, and the load functions as expected.

What makes them battery wrenches ( positive battery terminal )?

What makes them battery wrenches? 95% of the wrench is wrapped in a heavy layer of electrical tape and only the wrench jaws are exposed. Can’t even count the number of times I’ve seen guys short the positive terminal to ground. Plasti-dip works great too, but I’m too cheap to pay 8 bucks for a can of that.

What happens if you over torquing a battery cable?

Loose (under-torqued) or dirty connections will result in a higher resistance which can noticeably reduce power flow both from and into the battery. Over-torquing may damage the cable and or the battery terminal, so follow manufacturer recommendations.
