Why are my AC hoses freezing up on my GMC Truck?

Why are my AC hoses freezing up on my GMC Truck?

A freezing evaporator can cause exactly that. usually a symptom of the system being slightly low. I would suggest having the system discharged and refilled by weight. When using guages and a can tap to fill the system sometimes you can be a bit low and pressures will be in an acceptable range.

How to replace temperature sensor on Chevy evaporator?

Using 2 small straight slot screwdrivers, place them between the white front and blue box and gently turn to the side and then pry slightly. This will release the white front and circuit board from the blue box assembly. Pull it out. Be careful the gray wire is a bit fragile.

What should the temp of the AC evaporator be?

Plug the 3 pin connector in. Start the truck and make sure your A/C kicks in. Driving down the road on a humid day at an ambient outside temp of 85, the compressor should cycle out around 38-39 and back in around 40-43 degrees measure from the Center AC vents and fan speed 2 and in recirculate mode with the windows up or down.

What to do if your AC unit freezes?

Only thing to “fix” it is have it off for awhile to reset itself. Sounds like the evaporator core is freezing. That would cause no air from the vents. Turning it off for awhile let’s it thaw out. What to do when your gas evaporator freezes up?

After a certain amount of ice forms the only way to unfreeze it, even though the switch is now cycling the clutch, is to turn the AC off. The system works on pressure, not temperature, however the heating of the gas keeps the pressure over freezing even though some of the system is below freezing.

Why does my evaporator freeze up in the truck?

Use the vin from the truck. There are a few different ones. Low freon will not cause it to freeze up. That happens on Home/residential units. ON these the switch will make it shut on and off like mad and cycle to much. Evap could be clogged but most likely the cycle switch.

Can a low Freon charge cause an evaporator to freeze up?

Yes it is possible the issue is a low side switch on the evaporator is stuck on or cutting out below 32 degrees: this will always cause a freeze up. I have had this issue happen with a slightly low freon charge and only show up on long trips.
