Where is the return line on a trans cooler?

So as I understand it, I should leave this line into the radiator and take the return line off the radiator, put a fitting in the old return line spot on the radiator, run this line to “in” on the cooler, then run the “out” line on the cooler to the original return line on the trans.

Is the Trans cooler supposed to bypass the radiator?

Discussion in ‘ Transmission & Driveline Topics ‘ started by Ryan 79, Aug 1, 2010 . I’ve never done one of these the way its supposed to be done (I’ve hooked them only to the cooler itself and bypassed the radiator), so please tell me if I’m right or wrong here.

Where does the name coolant flow radiator come from?

However the range for your thermostat depends on the type of your engine, load requirements, weather, and other variables. Most thermostats are the “pellet” type; the name comes from the wax pellet that expands as the engine coolant warms. The pellet’s expansion forces the valve open.

Where does the coolant go in an engine block?

heat. After doing its thing, the coolant flows through the upper hose to the radiator where it releases the heat. Then, the water pump sends it back down into the engine’s water jackets to continue the cooling process.

What kind of transmission cooler do I need for a Chevy Silverado?

For a full size pickup truck is it typically best to get a larger cooler that has a large cooling surface with a higher GVWR, and either a stacked plate or plate and fin construction. With all these things in mind, our choices for the best transmission coolers for a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra include:

Why does my GMC Sierra not have a transmission cooler?

One of the common issues with transmission cooling on the 14+ Sierras and Silverados is the bypass valve within the factory transmission line. This valve is designed to prevent complete fluid flow until the trans temps reach 190F+.

Can a transmission cooler keep Trans temps lower?

It is much easier to keep trans temps lower in older trucks due to their simple transmission cooler line setup. For newer models with a 6L80 or 6L90 however (2014+), the transmission cooler lines utilize a built in thermostat that remains closed and does not flow to the cooler until the fluid reaches 190 degrees.
