My transit custom has a knocking sound coming from the front passenger side. A new shocker and droplink and relevant parts have been fitted under warranty but the knocking is still there. When my local garage serviced the van they noticed that the brake pads on the front were worn but not over excessive.

What’s the tapping noise at the top of the engine?

There is no sign of debris in theoil although it was very dirty. We have used an engine flush onit. The oil light goes out as soon asthe engine turns over and does it does not show on hot tick over. The noise appears to come fromthe top end when a stethoscope is used on it.

As above, strip it out and prove it either way. As above, strip the rocker cover off and examine cam, thrust washers and tappet buckets. On a knife edge ! As all the above but do you think diesels don’t have tappets?
