On mine there are a grey & a yellow wire side by side that tie into the harness but are for the radio or maybe speakers. Also on mine are 2 ground wires (black or very dark brown) that screw to the metal part of the dash. You might check them to make sure they are grounded good.

The Nova still has its original wiring except for the cables I upgraded with American Autowire. Well that said, the Technician immediately knew of my problem, and was patient with me with all my questions, as stupid as they may have sounded.

How do you remove an instrument panel from a 1973 Chevy Nova?
Reach under the dash and unplug the wires from the headlight and windshield wiper switches. Remove the lower steering column cover (not applicable on 1973 & later). Remove the 5 phillips head screws along the top edge of the instrument panel housing.
Where are the instruments located on a Chevy Nova?
Three of them are located across the lower/front edge of the dash pad above the ash tray & glove box. Another one is located further forward on the pad above the glovebox opening. And the fifth one is located above the instrument panel opening.

It has a single plug and is located off towards the driver side of the instrument panel (next to the larger rectangular harness plug). Now that everything is disconnected, the instrument panel should pull right out of the dash opening leaving the heater control panel still in place.

How to test dash lights on Chevy Nova?
Click here and you can scroll through both the 77 and 78 schematics. Print them out so you can take them out to the car with you. With the cluster out check the lamp wire terminal on the plug to see if it is getting power with the switch on. IIRC it is the gray wire. Clip the test lamp lead to a good ground.
