On mine there are a grey & a yellow wire side by side that tie into the harness but are for the radio or maybe speakers. Also on mine are 2 ground wires (black or very dark brown) that screw to the metal part of the dash. You might check them to make sure they are grounded good.

How do you remove an instrument panel from a 1973 Chevy Nova?

Reach under the dash and unplug the wires from the headlight and windshield wiper switches. Remove the lower steering column cover (not applicable on 1973 & later). Remove the 5 phillips head screws along the top edge of the instrument panel housing.

Three of them are located across the lower/front edge of the dash pad above the ash tray & glove box. Another one is located further forward on the pad above the glovebox opening. And the fifth one is located above the instrument panel opening.

How to test dash lights on Chevy Nova?

Click here and you can scroll through both the 77 and 78 schematics. Print them out so you can take them out to the car with you. With the cluster out check the lamp wire terminal on the plug to see if it is getting power with the switch on. IIRC it is the gray wire. Clip the test lamp lead to a good ground.
