What kind of intake manifold does a modular engine use?
What kind of intake manifold does a modular engine use?
A wide range of intake manifolds is available for the modular engine family, and you can find one to accommodate everything from carburetors to stack injection to compact supercharger applications. Ford Performance still carries a line of intakes for most of the modular engine applications.
Why did Ford change the shape of the intake manifold?
The port shape was changed to improve high-RPM performance. The IMRC plate inside the intake manifold is shown. At low RPM, this plate closes off the port and increases the velocity of the incoming air charge, which improves low-end torque. As the engine increases in RPM the plate opens and allows full airflow.
Can a dual port intake manifold be used in a 2V engine?
(Photo Courtesy Sullivan Performance) Dr. DOHC has done extensive work with the early 4.6 dual port and 2V engines, and it custom builds carburetor intake manifolds to work as a dual-port and a single-port system. These manifolds can be configured in low or high profile, single or dual carburetor, and all kinds of custom touches.
What kind of manifold does Ford Performance use?
Ford Performance Parts 3V manifold (PN M-9424-463V) is a composite design that works well with forced induction. It has a port for mounting a MAP sensor (used with some forced induction and speed density computers). It works with stock or Ford Performance and aftermarket throttle bodies. How big of a wall do you need for an intake manifold?
I picked 3/16β wall, which is almost 5mm thick. The most common grade of aluminum metal suppliers sell is 6061, usually in T6 temper. This is for good reason β itβs a great structural material, not far off from lower end mild steels in tensile strength. But it is a pain to form and in heat treated form it is quite brittle.

How big does a TB intake manifold need to be?
The TB itself is small, so even modified the largest aftermarket option I had seen was about 2.7β. The general geometry of the manifold is also not ideal for a high-performance application, as the plenum is small and the runners are very long, both things conducive to low-end torque but not so well suited for high RPM jam.
