Why is my Mercedes-Benz 280 SL smoking?
My 280 SL has been starting and running like silk since I replaced the Ignition Control Unit a while back. However, at highway speeds, when I decelerate, there is evidence of smoke from the exhaust and I suspect its the valve seals. So, I’ve decided to take the plunge and fix the seals and guides.
What should I do with my 69 280SL?
69 280sl: rich..adjusting..the screw on the back of the injection pump… got a 69 280sl thats… got a 69 280sl thats is running really rich. adjusting the screw on the back of the injection pump does not help much. i am at 9.5% CO, and 600-700 ppm HC. any ideas? i think i am going to pull the injectors and check the spray.
How can I tell if my 280SL is running?
The first thing to do is check your linkages. Make sure the linkage going down to the injection pump is completly relaxed at idle. It should just fall on to the top ball without moving the pump lever. If that’s good then I would suspect the automatic choke on top of the pump. That’s the device with the two water hoses going to it.
