What causes tail light to go out but bulb is OK?
I checked the bulb, and it’s not blown. Swapped it out for a new one, and it still doesn’t work. All the other lights are good. Contacts seem reasonably clean. What could cause that? There can’t be a fuse to one bulb, right? Do the plastic bulb mounting brackets for the tail lights just fail? I’m not sure where to start in trying to fix this.
How can I tell if my tail lights have a fuse?
When you have located the fuse for the tail lights use a fuse tester to check the connection. If the tester lights up – your fuse is functioning fine. If it does not light up then, replace the fuse with another of the similar amperage and size. In many instances, you can see the break in the metal strip of the fuse.

What should I do if my tail light has blown out?
Use your fingers or a tweezer to take out the fuse. Most new cars have a fuse extractor in the fuse box or in the tool kit. It is a small white plastic tool that resembles a pair of pliers. Bring it to an auto store to find a match, then buy a replacement and insert it in the proper position to replace the blown fuse. Look at the tail lamp wiring.
