What causes a cylinder to become hydraulically locked?

What causes a cylinder to become hydraulically locked?

In this condition, due to the unequal volume on either side of the piston, fluid pressure equalizes and the cylinder becomes hydraulically locked. Once this occurs, the cylinder can move only if fluid escapes from the cylinder via the rod seal or its ports. Figure 1. Double-rod cylinder – oil volume is equal on both sides of the piston

How does the pulling mechanism work on a lawn mower?

Also known as a recoil start, the pulling mechanism consists of a few different parts that work together to allow a user to start the mower engine. Understanding how the mechanism works will help when it becomes necessary to make basic repairs, including those for a broken starter cord.

What happens when the piston seal is removed from a double acting cylinder?

Fact is, if the piston seal is completely removed from a double-acting cylinder, the cylinder is filled with oil and the ports are plugged, the cylinder will hold its load indefinitely, unless the rod-seal leaks.

How is the handle attached to a pulley?

The most visible, and most user-accessible, part of the pulling mechanism is the starter rope and handle. The handle is attached to the end of the starter rope by means of a simple knot tied on the end of the rope.

What happens if the hydraulic cylinder on a log splitter breaks?

The flexible pump coupler on the log splitter hardens and deteriorates over time, and can break. When the flexible pump coupler is worn or broken, the engine and pump vibrate and rattle. If you detect vibration or noise coming from the hydraulic, check the flexible pump coupler and replace it if worn or broken.

What should I do if my hydraulic coupler breaks?

Because the flexible coupler is plastic, the coupler can deteriorate over time and crack or break. Replace the flexible coupler if it’s broken or damaged. If the flexible coupler broke, try to rotate the hydraulic pump drive shaft with the drive shaft disconnected from the engine drive shaft to check for a locked-up hydraulic pump.

Why does euro cylinder lock only work on one side?

An actuator or cam is a rotating piece on the lock that the key manipulates. The cam, in turn, moves the lock bolt. Some euro profiles are even designed to only work on one side at a time, so two people cannot open the lock simultaneously. Too much pressure or wear can damage the cam. It can slip, and that will keep the door from locking.
