The front axles do spin any time the truck is rolling, the disconnect is on the pass side of the front axle (vacuum activated). When in 2wd, the transfer case does not apply power to the front drive shaft, and the passenger side axle is not connected to the front diff.

Why are the hubs on my F150 not working?
Partially related to the vacuum leak but there was also something else going on, the hubs would not disengage properly, so they’re half locked in most of the time. Also found that the left front wheel bearing was in really bad shape too. So again, there’s play in the wheel bearing and the locking hub mechanism can be affected by that too.

Why is my Ford F-150 not shifting to 4WD?
They’re attached to the wheel spindle and are controlled with vacuum lines from the IWE Solenoid. Often times when these systems fail, they’ll make clicking noises.
