Is the Allison mt643 a good transmission?
Is the Allison mt643 a good transmission?
With the Allison AT545 you don’t get all that power directly transferred to the wheels. It’s a good transmission for several reasons, First, not having a Lockup torque converter gives it smoother shifts, and the ability to convert torque with the slipping converter does help you get the ball rolling.
Does at545 have overdrive?
It is not overdrive, but does have better spread between the gearing. Very reliable trans, but is heavy and does rob some power.
How does the MT643 work on an Allison?
In essence, it always has some slip like riding the clutch in a standard transmission. The MT643 will lock the converter after accelerating through third gear directly connecting your driveline to the motor. because of this, there is less slip, less heat, lower RPMs per MPH and more power transferred to the drive tires.
Is the Allison mt653 overdrive or overdrive?
Its got bigger shafts in & out than the AT545. Neither MT is overdrive. They came in a 643 (4 spd) or 653 (5 spd). You can surpass those ratings, and it’ll still live. They do shift a little slower than the 545 though.
Can a Allison Transmission know the service trade?
Allison Transmission could not possibly know, evaluate, and advise the service trade of all conceivable ways in which service might be done or of the possible hazardous consequences of each way. Consequently, Allison Transmission has not undertaken any such broad evaluation.

What should the RPM be on an Allison 643?
It’s a machine, not a werewolf. Given the 3.91 rear axle ratio, 542 tire revs per mile for the 9R22.5 tires, and a transmission ratio of 1 for the MT-643 4th gear, 60 MPH should be just over 2100 RPM. 2500 RPM should get you 70 MPH. If you’re leaking fuel, you’re out of service anyway! I would question the operation of the lockup clutch.
