How to test my 4WD actuator in a 2002 Silverado?

How to test my 4WD actuator in a 2002 Silverado?

Is there a way to test your 4×4 actuator in a 2002 Silverado to see if it is actually working? I have replaced it with a new actuator and new transfer case control switch and still cannot get my truck to go into 4×4. Switch just blinks and blinks 4hi or auto. I also have changed wires to make sure of bad wires. No idiot lights on either.

What is the actuator on a 4 wheel drive?

The actuator is a component found mostly on modern four wheel drives and is designed to electronically engage 4 wheel drive. It accomplishes this by means of a small electric motor bolted onto the transfer case that shifts a pin in place to lock the center transfer differential.

What happens when I switch my actuator from 2WD to 2WD?

Same as when you switch back to 2wd you can hear the motor on the transfer case and then the front actuator will move as well and the light will quit blinking and stay lit in 2wd.

How to get 2 lo from a 4×4 actuator?

You get ‘2 LO’ by breaking the ground wire in the circuit IIRC…. The brown wire is a 12V supply wire…. I’m sorry to hear you had troubles, Chris. I looked up the price of the electric actuator – it’s very expensive for what it is.

How to replace front axle actuator GMC Sierra?

1A Auto shows you how to replace the 4×4 front axle shift actuator on a 2002 GMC Sierra. This part is the same for many GM 4WD trucks. The procedure is the same for the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, years 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, and 06.

How does the thermal actuator work on a 4WD truck?

But the Posi-Lok system stays locked even when the ignition is off. The thermal actuator came first, when you engage 4WD there is a soft piece of plastic, maybe even wax that has to heat up before the actuator engages. The electric version came out in 98 or so and engages immediately.

Do you have a push button 4×4 actuator?

With 8 people in the car, it was a little slippery sometimes. It was GREAT to have the ‘push-button’ 4×4 system. P.S. Does this mean that since my ‘burb is a ’99 model that I already have an electric actuator?

When does the transfer case actuator stop blinking?

Yes once the cycle is complete, meaning once first the transfer case actuator cycles to 4 high (which you should be able to hear coming from under the centre of the vehicle as it is very noticeable) and then the front differential actuator engages the light quits blinking and stays lit in 4wd hi.

What causes a transfer case actuator to fail?

The most common component to fail on this vehicle that I have seen several times before is the transfer case electric shift actuator as it can fail internally electronically. When this actuator doesn’t engage properly the front differential actuator won’t engage properly as well.

Where is the blend door actuator on a Silverado?

The Blend Door actuator is located in the center of the core box, up under the dash. The Mode Door actuator is on the left, and the Resirc Door actuator is at the top of the dash near the windshield.

How can I check the voltage of the actuator?

You can test the actuator inputs by unplugging it, turning on the ignition, and checking the wire harness from pin 7 to 10 (outside wires) for +12V. Also check from pin 7 to 8 (middle wires) for a continuously varying voltage while rotating the Mode Selector.

How to perform the actuator recalibration procedure on a Cadillac?

The topic of how to perform the actuator recalibration procedure on Chevrolet , GMC and Cadillac Trucks and SUVs has become an ever increasing topic of discussion.

How to recalibrate the HVAC actuator in a GM Truck?

For manual systems it does not matter where the a/c controls are set but if you feel the need to do something, turn the blower switch on (I prefer speed 3) and set the temperature sliders about .5″ to .75″ from full cold. For auto systems, press the auto button, with the key on. Turn the ignition off.

Why is my front axle actuator not working?

The encoder motor keeps track of the proper position using the encoder feedback. The encoder is just a variable resistor. It can get worn and give bad readings to the TCCM. Here is a nice write-up on replacing the encoder (sensor wheel) inside the encoder motor. Front Axle Actuator: This part engages the front axle.

Is there a DTC for a GM 4WD?

Some later model 4WD systems have scan tool capabilities along with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) to help locate and diagnose many of the problems associated with them. We looked at two GM K 1500 trucks that have the NVG 246 two- speed transfer case. One is a 1999 model, the other a 2000.

When does front axle shift actuator stop working?

Note: If you have any questions about this shift actuator fitting your application, please call your local GM dealer with the above part number. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Did not last 3 months. Four wheel drive stopped working around 3 months after new actuator.

Is there a front axle actuator for a GMC Suburban?

Easy to install, cured my blinking selector light issue. 98 GMC Suburban drove like a boss in 4WD in our last blizzard !! Fits a 2009 GMC. Worked as advertised. Fixed my 4WD issues. Excellent price and easy to install. Good product great price. Pages with related products. See and discover other items: Axles for 2007 Chevy Silverado Classics

Why did I change my front diff actuator?

The change was due to needing a faster engagement from the actuator. If you’ve run the older thermo style one for any length of time you know they’re not the fastest thing, especially when the axle and actuator is packed with snow or it’s very cold out. Some would take several minutes to warm up enough to engage the axle.

Is the actuator on a 4 wheel drive car working?

Yes actuator is working fine and fuse is good, but it still does not engage. I don’t what is going on, it is weird it was working fine be for I replace the CV axles. helpful? Check to see if there is power to the front axle solenoid switch.

Why does my Chevy 4WD drive shaft not move?

The front drive shaft does not move when engaged in 4wd and the front tires off the ground. I have no power to the actuator up front. I have no power to the switch screwed in to the trans case. The wires that run under the driver’s feet, while being a poor design, are fine and look like new.

When did they start using 2 wire actuators in trucks?

They have the circuit that indicates “Front axle lock” and also operate the motor inside the actuator. His truck being an ’89 is definitely a 2 wire actuator thermal from the factory. I started seeing the newer style actuator used in trucks from the factory selectively starting around 1995.

Is there an amp in the back of my Blazer?

Well, just before this starting happening, my son and I installed a sub and amp in the back of the Blazer.

Is the 4Lo button on a blazer working?

I also now notice (in testing it) that the Auto 4WD, 2HI, and 4HI buttons work, but that the 4LO button just blinks when pushed (in neutral). I have to push one of the other buttons to get out of it.

Can a transfer case actuator be at fault?

When this actuator doesn’t engage properly the front differential actuator won’t engage properly as well. From what you have described here the transfer case actuator sounds like what you may have at fault as it is very common to cause this issue here.

What to do about a bad transfer case on a Silverado 1500?

Selector switch in a Silverado 1500. A bad transfer case motor will often throw a code on your dash, but can also be diagnosed if you fail to hear the motor spinning once the 4WD gear is engaged. A new transfer case motor will cost you around $200.

Where does the Dorman transfer case motor come from?

Designed to install and perform like the original motor, it uses a factory-style connector and is sealed for protection. Dorman is a leading auto parts manufacturer founded in the United States and headquartered in Colmar, Pennsylvania.
