How often does my 4WD switch go out?

It switches randomly once or twice a week or so. I checked all the connections and fluid levels and nothing seemed to be loose or low. However I was driving yesterday and all the lights went out completely on my 4wd switch and an alert message was displayed on my dash saying service 4wd/check 4wd.

GM push-button 4wd is goofy. sometimes they need reset. but, if that doesn’t work, i’d throw a switch at it if i were you. i know exactly what it is check your solenoid on your front axle for a loose or shorted connection!! been there done that!

I am hoping someone here can help me out. I have an 04 silverado 1500 crew cab 4wd. The truck has auto 4wd, 2wd, 4wd hi, 4wd low switch. I always keep the truck in 2wd unless needed other wise but I have noticed on more then one occasion now that my switch will automatically engage into auto 4wd from 2wd.
