What should I do if my compressor clutch is not working?
If you’re not getting battery voltage, pull the compressor clutch relay and check for power and ground on the relay control coil terminals in the socket. Wiring varies by make, model, and year. Some car makers trigger the relay control coil ground through the PCM or ECM.
How is the compressor clutch relay turned on and off?
In some vehicles the compressor clutch relay is turned on and off by the low pressure switch and the evaporator temperature sensor. In a computer controlled system, the compressor clutch relay is grounded by the computer. If the fuse is good, disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch coil.
What happens when your a / C compressor fails?
When a part fails, for example your A/C compressor, debris and possibly metal shavings may be present in the system. Failure to flush the system will introduce the debris into your new parts and shorten the life of the parts dramatically. Failure to have your system flushed will void your warranty
Where is the AC switch on the back of the compressor?
To install a switch now, you will have to evacuate the system, install the switch and than recharge it. By the way, my online database is showing that the 97’s high pressure cut out switch is located on the compressor and the low pressure switch is on the accumulator.

Do you have to replace the clutch on an AC compressor?
If the hub turns nicely, just replace the clutch if one is available. Or try pulling a clutch from a salvage yard compressor if new clutches aren’t available. (my assumption is the clutch is replaceable without pulling the compressor and/or discharging the system. please double check me on that, as I’m not 100% sure)
