How do you test a kickdown solenoid?
How do you test a kickdown solenoid?
The kick down switch at the gas pedal can be tested with a multimeter(set on ohms). The solenoid in the pan can be tested by applying 12 volts to the vertical connection at the transmission and listening for a click emanating from the pan. You need to ground the transmission when you do that.
What is kickdown switch?
An electrical switch that is used to cause a transmission to downshift from a higher to a lower gear ratio.
Is the kickdown switch on the side of the Trans?
I do not have the kickdown switch on the side of the trans wired to anything but yet it still downshifts when heavy throttle is applied. I have a boosted 489 and do not need or want the downshift. It actually creates quite a traction issue. I believe that the vacuum modulator is responsible for this when it sees low vacuum, is this correct?
Is there a kick down switch on a Mercedes?
This feature is not available right now. Please try again later. If your older Mercedes transmission is not shifting down or going into passing gear when you floor the throttle pedal you will need to diagnose the problem. One of the first things you should do is test the operation of the electrical kick down switch on the transmission.
Where is the shift solenoid on an automatic transmission?
When it’s time to shift, the transmission control unit sends out power or ground to the required shift solenoid, and it causes the solenoid to open and let the transmission oil flow into the valve body, which then shifts to the next gear. The Transmission shift solenoids are located inside the valve body of your automatic transmission.
Can a TH400 down shift without a kickdown?
That’s funny…right before I found your thread I was wondering IF a TH400 would/should down-shift without the kickdown switch. Mine does not downshift unless the mph is low enough to force it. Also, it will UP-shift at about 3500 even though you have the pedal to the floor.

Where can I buy a Turbo 400 kickdown switch?
You can purchase this from any of the reproduction companies like Original Parts Group, but these are somewhat expensive and clunky looking. B&M makes a TH400 Kickdown switch but it requires some fabrication work and is still a bit pricey.
How does a solenoid hook up to a transmission?
When the linkage hits WOT, this completes the circuit to connect the transmission to full system voltage. This electrical input powers up a solenoid in the transmission that accomplishes the same results, with higher line pressure and a signal to downshift the transmission.
