Cleaning a carburetor without removing it is fine. However, it can and should never replace the wholesome cleaning exercises. This is because it does not impact the entire length and breadth of the engine as should be the case.

Generally cleaned carb pretty well – it was fairly clean anyway. DID not mess with the slide or needle. Measured float and made tiny adjustment to get into spec. Reassembled and it won’t start for nothing! Used to start first kick. Plug is dry and kind of brown – replaced anyway just in case – won’t start.

Well I pulled the tank and carb back off, inspected and found a spot on the gasket between the carb and tank that was broken and not sealed well, apparently not allowing good suction from the tank. New gasket with some gasket sealer, put it back together and it runs like new again!
