With a modern 4WD, you can safely switch from 4Lo to 4Hi while driving, however, you will always need to stop before engaging 4Lo from 4Hi. Similar to sand, you want to drive in 4H since it offers you stability and you can build momentum as you track through the soft boggy mud.

You are destroying your 4×4 system!!! either use 2h until you need 4×4 or get your transfer case fixed. It is clearly not working automatically. You are seriously damaging your wheel hubs in the front if you continue to drive on dry pavement in 4×4.

My 99 Expedition Eddie Bauer has full time 4 wheel drive. Or at least it has A4x4 on the switch. WHen turning steep into a parking space or out on the road it jumps and hops as if it were in 4wheel high or something.
Why is my 4WD pump not working at all?
Dealer originally replaced pump. because of the default to defrost when 4wd engaged. ended up being the little fender mounted solenoid which costs around $35-$40. cheaper to replace it myself than pay for the warranty work. there is a diagnostic on here for this problem somewhere. hope this helps…

Why are there fumes in my Ford Expedition?
Fumes seem also to be either entering the cabin in the rear cargo area, or gathering there and being distruibuted by the rear heat-cool system ventilation fan through the ceiling air ducts. Ford has tried repeatedly to diagnose and fix the problem, but seems to be having trouble identifying the cause.
