Are there any issues with the Corvette Z06?

Many of us that routinely compete in high performance driving events have heard of some C7 Z06 owners experiencing heat soak and overheating while driving on a track during high ambient temperatures. GM found that most of these overheating issues were happening on 2015 – 2016 Corvette Z06s equipped with the automatic transmission.

How is the Corvette Z06 cooling system working?

In a conversation with Motor1.com, Corvette’s chief executive engineer, Tadge Juechter, said the 2017 Z06 ‘Vettes will have a new hood for better cooling, a different supercharger cover and modifications to the actual cooling system — all working to help keep the Corvette cool.

The Z06 cooling system is more than adequate for street usage and will be sufficient for most skill levels on the track. Those at the upper end of the skill range will be able to overheat the Z06. For the M7 guys GM has an additional cooler which fits where the front A8 cooler is located.

What kind of engine does a Corvette Z06 have?

If you throw your Chevrolet Corvette Z06 around on a racetrack, you might be one of the drivers who has experienced a little overheating on the 650-hp supercharged LT4 V8 (or, if you’re lucky, you’ve simply tripped the car into limp mode to save it from overheating).

Is there a trans cooler for the Corvette Z06?

For example, the front-mounted supplemental trans cooler developed for the Z06 automatic will be included in the Z51 package for automatic coupes starting in the 2016 model year.
