Wassup everyone. I’ve been driving my 62, 327, 4dr impala around since april and there seems to be a few issues with the powerglide transmission. It shifts fine into the higher gear around 40-50 mph, but it seems to keep “slipping,” for lack of a better word, into the first gear when i slow down or take my foot off the gas at all.
What should the shift speed be on a Powerglide?
Right now the car shifts at around 20 mph and downshifts at about 10 mph. It would really be nice to get some more rpms out of first gear to get up to speed. Some of the modulators are adjustable, remove the vac hose there will be a screw driver slot inside the vac port, I dont remember the direction you need to turn it.
Why does my Powerglide shift without TV linkage?
If you don’t have the TV linkage installed then it is going to shift as if you are just babying the throttle all the time, and it will not downshift using the throttle.
Can a Powerglide be swapped into a TH350?
You could swap to an aluminum Powerglide, do some shifter linkage/throttle-kickdown linkage adjustments, and be better off with a stronger transmission, lighter transmission, easier to find parts for transmission. Or, like someone else already said, swap to a TH350, aftermarket shift displays are available, and use a cable the TH350’s came with.

Is it OK to shift into high on a Powerglide?
A powerglide is almost unkillable as long as it is not overheated. shifting into high at 45-50 is late if you are not accelerating hard. I think you need to check your T.V.Linkage. If this linkage is set to tight it will make the transmission upshift late and downshift early.
Where is the band adjustment on a Chevy Powerglide?
Second, there is a band adjustment for low gear. The adjustment point is located on the driver side of the trans (usually under a small tin cap) Sometimes the cap is missing. You screw in the allen bolt and torque to approx 20 in lbs. Then back it off exactly 3 turns. Tighten the nut. That should address any low gear slippage.
Where is the detent on a Powerglide transmission?
From the beginning of the video, you’ll find yourself face to face with the internals of the PowerGlide transmission. Along the top side of the casing, you’ll see the detent, the gold piece of hardware attached to a spring. This is what clicks through the gears when you shift.
