Are strut spacer lifts good?
Are strut spacer lifts good?
Spacer lifts aren’t bad if you install them correctly, and as long as the spacers don’t lift the truck too high. Issues arise if the spacers are too high, causing issues with suspension. Mild spacer liftsare great for off-road and can even improve the off-road ability.
Are strut spacers bad?
A word of caution though – When strut spacer kits are fitted above the top mount assembly it can create over-extended down-travel (droop). This over-extension can cause ball joint, CV joint and/or component damage.
Do strut spacers affect ride?
A spacer will give a fixed amount of lift that will never change. The coil spring, used in conjunction with a spacer, can change lift height (due to wear or a change in weight), but the spacer will never change height. A spacer will never improve the ride, and it generally will not change the spring rate.
What does a strut preload spacer do?
A preload spacer being put within the spring/shock assembly increases the ride height by stiffening the springs and limiting compression.
Can you Offroad with spacer lift?
The spacers will give a harsher ride offroad. Also the rough street ride (potholes and such) will be harsher. Otherwise you’ll be fine until you realize you want a real/good upgrade.
Does a spacer lift increase ground clearance?
Usually, spacer lift kits only allow you to raise your truck by a few inches. They do not give your truck more ground clearance. If your goal with installing a lift kit is to improve your suspension and increase your ground clearance for a better off-road experience, spacer lift kits simply will not affect that.
Do spacer lifts ride rough?
Spacers are going to be rough. To fix it you need to either get some 5100’s and set them at 2.5 (get rid of the spacers), or get some lift coils, or get some coilovers.
Are preload spacers bad?
The problem with preload spacers is that it stretches the strut out. It essentially took 2″ of down travel away from the strut. It is possible that over bumpier roads that the strut is maxed out and can not travel down any further. I ran into the issue on my 2013 2wd after installing a spring spacer type leveling kit.
Do strut spacers increase ground clearance?
When installed, coil spring spacers reduce the expansion and contraction of the coils in a vehicle’s suspension system. As a result, the assisters can increase the ground clearance of a vehicle by around 10-15 mm.
Do strut spacers limit travel?
Gaining height, but not travel – the main issue with spacers is that you’re just increasing height; this will limit the amount of suspension droop you have. This adds stresses to the suspension, potential fouling issues and more, like the strut bottoming out before it reaches the bump stop.
What are the pros and cons of strut spacers?
There are pros and cons to each option, the biggest factor for people going with a spacer is perceived cost vs a new set of struts that may do the same. Spacers are also very popular amongst new truck owners who just want to level the vehicle without replacing struts that dont have much life on them yet.
How are struts used in full stock suspension?
Full stock suspension up-travel is maintained with Ride-Height Adjustable Struts installed. Up-travel is restricted when the shock assembly bottoms out with the strut extension spacer installed. Ride-Height Adjustable Struts prevent over extension of the suspension.
What’s the difference between leveling and lifted struts?
Leveling struts, lifted struts, or adjustable height struts, all mean basically the same thing. On these struts, there is a coil spring collar that can sit at different heights on the shock body, either through a collar that changes orientation (Pro Comp), or different grooves that the coil spring collar sits in (Bilstein).
What can strut extension do to a ball?
Strut extension can created extended down-travel causing possible damage to ball joints, CV joints, and driveline components.
