too much timing kills torque and increases chance of knock and not enough timing kills torque also. now boost this motor to 15 psi, the air/fuel mix is denser and most sources claim that less ignition advance is required.

Try this: set initial timing (no vacuum) at 14, connect the vacuum advance to manifold vacuum ( not ported) then run the rpm back up and you should have around 32-36 all in. The reason for connecting to manifold vacuum is that as rpm increase, manifold vacuum falls off and mechanical advance kicks in.

Regardless of ignition system the total timing on a BB MoPar is 36-38 deg (32 deg for HEMI). Set the mechanical advance so it’s all in by 2200 – 2500. You may find a happy place for the initial to be 10-15 BTC. Vacuum advance should be hooked up on the ported port on the carb and as a rough setting should add 10 deg when a vacuum signal is present.

Ignition timing is too advanced at engine speeds below that and not advanced enough at engine speeds above that. Changing the timing value up or down changes the engine speed up or down for the optimum ignition timing.
