What is part 2 of a convertible top installation?

Part 2 of the convertible top installation deals with installing the top pads, top “trim” (fabric) and windlace. There are many convertible top manufacturers, and there are loads of opinions on which are best. While quality is really important, cost is a big deal for me too.

What happens to the top of a GTO?

Part 1 deals with restoring the top frame assembly. To see the top trim installation, go to Part 2. One of the last tasks to be done on the GTO is the installation of a new convertible top. In keeping with the effort on the rest of the car, the top frame will be taken apart for repair, cleaning and a repaint.

How big does a convertible top need to be?

Two sections of 5-6 foot each will arrive, however you will need about 8 feet of each size to do the whole top. They could have simply included an extra 3 feet of each size. The tack strip included for the rear was the wrong size. They shipped 3/8″ x 3/8″ which is too narrow and short for the rear top bow and would not have worked.

Where is the stitching on a convertible top?

If you look closely, there is a second row of stitching behind the tops lip. It is towards the rear of the rear side window. This row of stitching helps maintain a decorative lip which covers the weatherstripping and reduces wind.
