Why does oil come out of the PCV valve?
Why does oil come out of the PCV valve?
The PCV valve is in the valve cover, where oil shoots up and sloshes all over the place. If there is too much oil, one of the few ways it can escape is through the PCV valve. I was under the impression that the oil might sip into the valve and through the tubes. So it’s pretty alright for oil to appear on the valve?
When do you Know Your valve cover is bad?
During most oil changes, the technician will inspect the valve cover to see if there is any leaking oil coming from the valve cover gasket. The quickest indication of this problem is when the valve cover/cylinder head is very dirty.

Why do I get blue smoke from my PCV valve?
White/Black/Blue Smoke from the Exhaust If the PCV valve or the hoses are blocked, the crankcase will push up oil into the combustion chambers, which will cause oil to burn inside the engine and go out through the exhaust pipe. This will cause a lot of blue smoke from the exhaust pipe.
What causes a PCV valve to blow out?
Typically the PCV valve fails due to high pressure for other reasons. I’m going to try to link to a few threads that explains the PCV valve, how it works, how to test if it’s blown, and the intake manifold. Anyone can remove the cover and test to see if the PCV valve is blown without tools.
Can you use PCV or breathers on the valve covers?
Yes, that is exactly what I did on my s-trimmed 336, and it makes over 500hp with ZERO issues. You have to be very careful on what type of valve covers you are using as far as the PCV system goes. I have had problems with oil being sucked right into the intake on my car after installing a good PCV system…
What’s the problem with the frozen PCV valve?
One more thing (now comes the amazing part!)… While they are doing usual diagnostic for the frozen PCV valve yesterday, they also discovered three blown oil gasket and severe oil leaks; oil pan gasket are blown, crankshaft gasket are blown and another oil gasket are blown (I can’t remember where).
Is the intake plenum clean with PCV system?
No more smoke, AND after pulling the carb to check on the condition of the intake plenum, NO MORE OILY GOO!! The entire intake plenum and all runners are spotlessly clean and bone dry. I’m not discounting a proper PCV system and believe that it is needed for cleaner engine operation etc.
