Why does the 5.7L owners manual recommend spark plugs replacement at only 30,000 miles while the 6.1L says can go to 100,000 miles? What have you guys experienced, is it really necessary to change plugs that early on 5.7L? (Wife is looking to buy a new 2011 Charger R/T so that’s how this question came up). The 5.7s have different plugs.

What are the spark plugs for a hemi 5.7 Hemi?
The core is copper the electrodes are plated with a different metal (nickel, platinum, iridium, etc…). Depending on the model year of the 5.7L the spec plugs are either copper/nickel (change every 30K miles) or the platinum plugs (change every 100K miles).

How often do you change spark plugs on a hemi?
I just traded in my 2012 SXT for a 2014 R/T last week. I asked the service advisor at the dealership if there was a difference in maintenance between the six and the eight cylinder engine and he said to change the plugs every 30k (dealership wants $249.95). But the owners manual recommends changing the plugs for the 5.7 at 100k????
