How does the thermo coolant fan switch work?

How does the thermo coolant fan switch work?

This switch is configured to work based upon the temperature of the engine. As engine temperature rises to a specific threshold, the switch is activated powering on the coolant fan. The coolant fan will continue to run until the engine temperature cools down to a specific predetermined level.

What to do if your thermo switch doesn’t work?

A thermo-switch with push-on connections. The switch is threaded and has a sealing washer which must be renewed. If the fan motor is not at fault, leave the ignition switched on, take the connections off the thermo-switch and briefly touch them together. If the fan motor now works, the switch is faulty.

Where is the thermo switch on a car?

The thermo-switch is normally located in the radiator bottom tank, in the thermostat housing, or in the cylinder head. To remove the switch, drain the radiator (See How to flush an engine radiator) until the coolant is below the level at which it is fitted.

What does the thermo switch on a Honda radiator do?

If the fan switch relay is giving off the appropriate readings and is in working condition, move on to the next step. The thermo switch (also called the cooling fan switch) sends a signal to the cooling fan, so the fan turns on if the coolant gets too hot.
