Why does my car make a sloshing sound when I accelerate?

Why does my car make a sloshing sound when I accelerate?

@JimFell I think you’re associating the increased prominence of the sound with the wrong trigger. As you said, under normal circumstances, your car is accelerating when the engine is running faster. When there is water in a container, and that container experiences acceleration, inertia will cause the water to move around within the container.

Is it normal to make noise when accelerating?

There are noises that are normal on acceleration. The best way to know if the noise is normal is simply if you have heard the noise before. You have probably driven, or at least ridden in cars for years.

What makes a sloshing noise under the dash?

Sometimes when I start it up, begin moving forward, or quickly decelerate I can hear what sounds like water (or some other liquid) moving from one place to another (can’t quite tell where) under the dash or maybe just behind the firewall.

Why does my car make a rattling noise when I accelerate?

It will be a faint sound when the car is idling in ‘park’ mode, but the volume and frequency will increase in proportion to acceleration. It could indicate the last stage of the converter’s life. If this happens, you should take the vehicle to a repair shop as soon as possible.

Why does my car make a sloshing noise when I start it?

If you hear a liquid sloshing sound coming from under the hood when starting the car or accelerating, it could indicate that air has gotten into the cooling system. It’s likely from a leak, or perhaps from the engine’s head gasket. It’s important to get this checked.

Why does my AC make a sloshing sound?

Your AC evaporator condenses water when the warm moist air passes over it, this happens in the normal operation of the AC.

What does the sloshing sound under the dash mean?

My experience (in multiple cars, albeit not your make/model) has been that this sound always means your cooling system is under-filled.

Why does my car make a high pitched squealing noise?

If you hear a high-pitched squealing or squeaking sound coming from under the hood, it probably means your car’s serpentine belt, which powers several of the vehicle’s accessories, is worn or loose. Have it checked and/or replaced before it breaks and the car loses its power steering, charging, engine cooling, and air conditioning.
