Why is my Dodge Ram 1500 no start?

Please try again later. This 2004 4.7l Dodge Ram 1500 had an intermittant no crank/no start. Instrument cluster self test revealed no communication with the PCM. Wiggling the wires at the Integrated power module and PCM seemed to help but eventually it refused to crank at all. Problem was traced back to a worn through PCM B+ wire.

What does no start no crank no click mean?

If you have a late model GM vehicle and turn the key only to hear nothing, you’ll most likely think you have a dead battery—and you may. But a no start, no crank, no click condition can be far more involved than that. In the old days, power flowed through the ignition switch and down to the starter solenoid. Not anymore.

What causes a car to have a no start condition?

The battery or battery problems are the number-one cause of this type of no-start condition. A quick way to check your battery is to turn your headlights on. If the headlights come on and are nice and bright, not dim or dull, then it’s likely your battery and its connections are okay.

Where is the no bus signal on the Odom?

What causes a PCM to fail in a car?

PCMs are rated to last far, far longer than any of your car’s sensors, so their failure is usually caused by other issues in your car’s electrical system, such as power surges. If you don’t want to find yourself back in the shop three months later replacing your PCM again, ask your mechanic to find out why it failed to begin with.

What do I do if my gas gauge is not working?

In most cases, to gain access to the fuel tank sending unit mount / fuel pump mounting hole, you’ll need to drop the gas tank down. Be sure to do this when there is either minimal gas in the vehicle, or it’s been siphoned out.

What does the gas gauge read when the tank is empty?

Most older sending units are a “0-30” or “0-60” ohm sending unit, meaning that when the tank is at empty, the resistance will read 0ohms, where at full, it will read 30, or 60ohms. To test this, simply put your mutl-meter to ohms (resistance) setting, and touch off one probe to the sending terminal, and the other probe to ground.

Why does my Dodge Ram say no bus?

Had a “no bus” on both my ’99 ram, and ’01 Durango. Both were bad ECM’s. That bolt just holds the plug into it’s socket. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with the connection. When does the CCD system go into idle mode?

When the data bus voltage differential is a steady 0.02 volts, the CCD system is considered “idle.” When no input is received from any module and the ignition switch is in the Off position for a pre-programmed length of time, the bus data becomes inactive or enters the ”sleep mode.”

What does collision mean in a CCD system?

Within the context of the CCD system, the term “collision“ refers to the system’s ability to avoid collisions of the electronic data that enters the data bus from various electronic control modules at approximately the same time. Multiplexing is a system that enables the transmission of several messages over a single channel or circuit.

How are binary messages transmitted on the CCD data bus?

The “D” in D1 and D2 identify these as diagnostic circuits. Transmission and receipt of binary messages on the CCD data bus are accomplished by cycling the voltage differential between the Bus (+) and Bus (–) circuits.

A few PCM sensors can cause this problem too.

Why does my Dodge Ram not have an odometer?

If all that checks out unplug the following sensors: Cranks sensor, Cam/SYNC sensor, TPS, MAP and Trans connector. These 5v sensors can short out the CCD bus because they share the same power source. You will have to cycle the key off and on to reset the PCM and CCD bus once you find the problem.

Why are all of my gauges not registering?

The sending unit wire could be bad or broken, or the circuit from the gauge to the sender is incomplete. Without a ground, the gauge will not register. It is highly unlikely that all the sender units are bad, so we can rule that out. Of course, it is also possible that all the gauges are malfunctioning.
