Is rear negative camber good?

Is rear negative camber good?

A negative camber can improve the handling of the vehicle. This design makes it possible to keep the entire contact patch evenly loaded. Without this angle, the tire would load on the outer portion of it, which would produce less grip when trying to steer in potentially difficult situations.

What does a rear camber kit do?

The camber kit has eccentric bolts that have one side shaved off and washers that fit them making it possible to adjust the camber as you’re turning the bolt. If you change the height of the vehicle it could be needed or if the alignment is not within specs.

What does rear negative camber do?

Because negative camber allows the car’s tyre to be kept perpendicular to the road as the vehicle moves along, it will enable drivers to achieve a better grip on the road, reduce wheel vibration, and improve vehicle handling.

Do you need rear camber kit?

When you lower the car, the camber will go out and you need a camber kit to fix it. However, I find it is not necessary to correct the camber in most cases. Most people think they need a camber kit because of a tire-wear concern. The reality is, TOE ANGLE kills tires WAY faster than camber ever will.

Why do race cars run negative camber?

Simply put, the negative camber is so that when the tyre is loaded in a corner, and the effect of the load is to push the tyre “over”, it means that the full width of the tyre is flat on the tarmac giving the maximum grip, for the minimum wear on the tyre.

What will negative camber cause?

Excessive negative camber can cause the wheels to tramline, or follow cracks in the road. It also worsens acceleration and braking in a straight line. The vehicle is often too sensitive to the crown of the road (curvature designed for water drainage to the sides of the road).

How much does a camber kit cost?

Look for dependability, easy installation, and warranty when buying an aftermarket camber and alignment kit. It will cost you anywhere between $5 and $500 to buy a camber and alignment kit.

Do cambers do Lowering Springs?

The Suspension gains positive camber as it is unloaded, or lifted, typically seen only on trucks or Jeeps. On average most cars gain about -0.75 degrees of camber with every inch it is lowered, which adds up very quickly.

How much negative camber should I have?

For a normal car you typically want to maintain a slight amount of negative camber (0.5 – 1°) to have a good balance of cornering grip, braking grip, and tire wear. On most vehicles it’s common to have slightly more negative camber (0.8 – 1.3°) in the rear to reduce the chances of oversteer (loss of grip in rear).
