On Karkidaka vavu day on Tuesday, hundreds of people took part in the ‘pithru tharpanam’ rituals, in memory of departed ancestors, at various Siva temples in the district. People believe that the souls of their departed relatives will come to bless them and receive the offerings on the vavu bali day.
