Hanauma Bay is open from 6:00am until 7:00pm in Summer and from 6:00am until 6:00pm in Winter. It is closed every Tuesday, Christmas and New Year’s day. Public visits are forbidden during holidays.

The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve (HBAY) is open to the public Wednesdays through Sundays, with entry allowed from 6:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All HBAY visitors must leave the nature preserve by 4 p.m., with the beach being cleared at 3:30 p.m. This schedule is subject to change at any time.

Hanauma Bay is the best because it has parking (super helpful,) and the bay is naturally protected by the coral so that it doesn’t get strong surf. This makes it perfect for small keiki to enjoy themselves and parents don’t have to worry about safety concerns (although you should still keep an eye on your children regardless.)

Is there shade at Hanauma Bay?
There is some shade but not much. You would need to take an umbrella with you. IMHO Hanauma Bay has the worst snorkeling on the islands. It’s worth a visit just to see the beauty of the bay but doesn’t really compare to any snorkeling on Maui. The best snorkeling is found on the big island of Hawaii and Maui comes in second.
