Are you supposed to trim dreads?

Sure. You won’t have to cut them very often because dreads gain length very slowly. The hair still grows the same speed but rather than adding directly to the length as it grows it winds around and around and knots so it takes a lot longer for the length to increase. As you comb much of the loose hair will come out.

When should you trim your locs?

YES, you can cut the ends of your locs if you’ve been loc’d for at least 2-3 years, or don’t mind waiting for your locs to form another “bud” at the ends, or if you’re just ready for a new haircut (yes you can cut locs into hairstyles!).
