This head was also used in IMSA racing, but not in turbocharged form. In 1986, Chrysler increased the displacement of the engine to 2.5 L (153 cu in) and added counterrotating balance shafts to smooth out the vibrations and harsh harmonics normally produced by long-stroke 4-cylinder engines.
