What does a transfer case drop kit do?

What does a transfer case drop kit do?

Transfer Case Drop Kits drop your transfer case to help alleviate excessive drive line angles resulting from suspension lifts. When you lift your truck there are several things that must be considered. One of the main areas affected by a lift is the angle of your drive line.

Do you need a transfer case drop?

Absolutely you do. If you have a 4″ lift kit, you either need a SYE / CV driveshaft or a transfer case drop kit. Failure to do one or the other will result in bad vibrations and eventual damage to your drivetrain.

Will a JK transfer case work in a TJ?

No, The JK transfercases do not have a speed signal output as they use wheel speed sensors. Your TJ needs a speed signal for the computer otherwise it will run bad & throw the CEL.

What does slip yoke eliminator do?

Slip Yoke and Slip Yoke Eliminator This sliding capability allows for changing length depending on the vehicle’s movements. A slip yoke eliminator, abbreviated SYE, does what the name suggests: It eliminates the slip yoke from the transfer case. Instead, it turns it into a fixed yoke that does not slide.

What is meant by U joint phasing?

Phasing is the process of aligning the universal joint yokes on both ends of the drive shaft (or double u-joint)in a parallel fashion. If the joints are not properly phased, they will operate at varying speeds throughout each revolution which can cause second-order vibrations.

Is double cardan stronger?

They are often found in 3⁄4-ton trucks and allow more angularity than 1310 joints but are only marginally stronger. Some drivelines use a “double cardan,” or constant velocity (CV), with two joints at one end (typically the transfer case) and a single joint at the other end.

Does a driveshaft have to be straight?

Not really, it depends on what type of driveshaft you have, Some driveshafts can be slanted a lot more than others depending how long the spline and slip is, some are 6” and some extreme off road vehicles and vehicles that have hydraulics have slip shafts that are 3 ft long.

What is driveline phasing?

Driveshaft phasing is the process of aligning the driveshaft, U-joints, and slip yoke to balance and prevent unwanted vibration from the vehicle’s driveline system. In some cases, there are two or even three shafts that need to be aligned properly to ensure that vibrations are not transmitted throughout the vehicle.

Is a double cardan a CV joint?

Some drivelines use a “double cardan,” or constant velocity (CV), with two joints at one end (typically the transfer case) and a single joint at the other end. One is the operating angle during normal driving, which can cause vibration and/or the premature failure of the joint if it is too steep or out of phase.

What is a slip yolk?

Within many Jeeps, the slip yoke describes an internal splined shaft that’s connected to the driveshaft itself using a universal joint. The slip yoke is present to transfer power from your Jeep’s transfer case to the driveshaft, sliding in and out of the transfer case.
