An e-purse Leap Card can be used on DART and Commuter services, Dublin Bus and Luas. Save up to 24 percent with Leap card versus cash fares. Leap also offers flexibility, convenience and is safer than carrying cash.

Can you use a Leap Card as ID?

When using your Student Leap Card as an ID in conjunction with a student paper ticket you do not need to “Touch-On” your Student Leap Card. If you “Touch-On” you will be charged. You must have your Student Leap Card available for inspection when travelling on a discounted student ticket.

Leap Card is valid on the Airlink 747 service to and from Dublin Airport. You can also use it on all Dublin Bus, Luas (tram), and local rail services in Dublin. Simply buy your Leap Card, top up with Travel Credit and pay-as-you-go. Once in Dublin, Leap Card fares are up to 18% cheaper than cash fares.

What happens if you don’t tap off Leap Card?

When you Touch-Off the appropriate amount is refunded to your card. If you forget to Touch-Off, the default fare will be the final fare charged for the journey. You can check your Travel Credit balance and Top-Up your TFI Leap Card at ticket machines in stations in Dublin (Cork coming soon).

Leap Cards can expire based on the card profile expiry date i.e. in the case of Child, Student and Child 16-18 Cards. Once Leap Cards expire, Leap Card customers (excluding Student Leap Card holders), shall have 6 months in which they can claim a refund.

You can use your TFI Leap Card to travel if your card is in a positive balance, even if the balance does not cover the full fare. Your card will then go into a negative balance and will not work for subsequent journeys until topped up.
