You could totally use the foam as a jacket. But you could not use it as a mold itself. The rigidity of the foam and it’s hardening poroperties would work good for a mold jacket, but not for the mold itself.

We recommend scuffing the surface with some sandpaper to get the best bond, but once the standard surface prep is done, you can apply your gelcoat, resin or epoxy.

With most adhesives, a smooth surface like glass is not great for long term adhesion. Throwing a layer of silicone/eggcrate/sanded glass gives the great stuff a not so smooth surface to grip so should provide better grip long term.
