When to feel rear wheel bearing spacers and lock nuts?
When to feel rear wheel bearing spacers and lock nuts?
Next time you drive the car stop after few minutes , then thirty minutes, and maybe an hour later and feel the hubs. If you can hold your hand on the drive flange and part of the hub sticking out of the wheel the bearing preload is OK, if you can’t hold your hand on continuously it’s a bit too hot.
How do you adjust the bearing on a roller wheel?
1) Mount the hub assembly onto the axle spindle, while holding the outer cone in place. Make sure the bearing cones, spacer and spindle are aligned to avoid seal damage. 2) Install the inner spindle nut and torque to 300ft-lbs. Do not back off the spindle nut. How to adjust tapered roller bearing for one piece?
For a double nut or jam nut system, bend the lock tab or install the set screw after the outer nut is torqued to 200ft-lbs. For one-piece spindle nut systems, torque the nut to a minimum of 300ft-lbs. Do not back off the spindle nut. Engage any locking device that is part of the spindle nut system.
Where do you put the spacer on a spindle?
1. Clean the spindle. 2. Lubricate the inner bearing shoulder and the bearing journals on the spindle with a light film of clean wheel end grease. 3. Install the spindle spacer on the bearing shoulder of the spindle. Note:The grease applied to this area is needed to hold the spindle spacer on the bearing

When to use a new wheel bearing torquing nut?
This is typically when a one-time-use, self-staking nut secures the hub. In these applications, a new nut must always be used when installing a hub. Reuse of the old nut could potentially cause the nut to loosen during vehicle operation. Clean and inspect the axle shaft prior to installing a new hub assembly.

What should the EndPlay be for final wheel bearing torquing?
The adjustment nut is then loosened 1/6 to 1/4 turn, and locked in place with a new cotter pin. As a rule, endplay should be about 0.001 to 0.005 inches. Many vehicles require the wheels to be on the ground for final wheel bearing torquing to OEM specifications.
