Why is my Porsche smoking?

Why is my Porsche smoking?

A failure in the air-oil separator (AOS) can be a likely culprit in causing your Boxster to smoke. The AOS is a device that is designed to reduce your car’s emissions. When the AOS fails, it can result in oil going into the intake manifold, which then causes damage to spark plugs and catalytic converters.

What does it mean when a lot of smoke coming from exhaust?

Many times, this thick smoke is due to the likes of a blown head gasket, damaged cylinder, or a cracked engine block, which is causing coolant to burn. Thick white exhaust smoke usually indicates a coolant leak, which could cause overheating and put your engine at a serious risk of damage.

What does white smoke mean at startup?

If you notice white smoke from the exhaust on startup, this means that your car engine is taking on too much fluid from the vacuum pipe or the hose, meaning that your car will be burning excess oil and causing a burnt smell that is noticeable to the drivers and passengers.

Why does my car smoke on start up?

Usually it’s due to worn piston rings or wear on the cylinders themselves. The valves sit right on top of the cylinders and when the seals are worn out, oil leaks into the combustion chambers and burns together with the fuel. Sometimes after a car has been parked for a while, blue smoke is noticeable on start up.

Is it normal for a car to smoke on a cold start?

The exhaust can suck air in from the outside as it cools, adding the moisture present in the surrounding air. This is why you see water dripping out of exhausts just after then first start up on cool or cold days. This is normal. Nothing to worry about.

What color should exhaust smoke be?

white
It is considered normal when the exhaust coming from your vehicle is light or thin white. This type of smoke is usually just water vapor. You will notice it when you first start your vehicle, especially on cold days. The reason for this form of exhaust is that condensation collects naturally in the exhaust system.

Why is my exhaust smoking white?

White smoke from the exhaust: This could be steam caused by condensation in the exhaust pipe or a more serious issue caused by an engine coolant leak. Excessive amounts of white smoke could indicate head gasket failure.

Why is my car smoking but not running hot?

The most common answer to, “Why is my car smoking but not overheating?” is that there’s a type of fluid that’s landed on the engine. This can be motor oil, fuel, transmission fluid, coolant, or even condensation. It can cause your engine to smoke because it’s burning off that fluid from the engine.

What causes an oil leak in a Porsche Cayman?

The Porsche Cayman has a number of common sources for leaking oil. Some of the most common include rear main seal (see below), valve covers, spark plug seals and oil cooler seals. Less common are leaks from the cam seals and scavenger oil pump seal.

What causes white smoke in a Porsche Cayman?

As the membrane in the AOS fails, oil is sucked into the air intake. Initially this can show up as a check engine light for fuel adaptations with oil being deposited on the o2 sensors causing emission faults. Of course, once it fails completely, the resultant burning oil produces huge clouds of white smoke – this is fairly obvious.

What causes a Porsche Cayman engine to misfire?

Misfires can occur at any time on the Cayman engine and require diagnosis to identify which cylinders are misfiring and why. Common causes are worn spark plugs, cracks in ignition coils and oil leaking past the spark plug tube seals (see above).

Where does the gas go in a Porsche Cayman?

The oil is recycled to the sump, while the gas is passed through the combustion path to be burnt and cleaned by the catalytic converters. The AOS has caused numerous issues on Porsche engines and is an item to be closely monitored.
