Why is my motor pinging?
Why is my motor pinging?
An engine will begin to ping at a relatively rapid pace when the fuel grade gets too low in its octane rating. A pinging noise in the engine can also indicate the need to repair the part of the car that tells the coil when to fire the cylinder. You might have carbon build-up in the combustion chamber.
Why does my car engine keep pinging and knocking?
Treating your engine with a carbon cleaner or a fuel system additive, can usually clears this up. Vehicle emission systems may use vacuum to operate switches, solenoids and actuators around the engine: Vacuum leaks in any of these components may cause knocking or pinging.
Why does my car make a knocking noise?
Either, try cleaning off the carbon deposits, or replace the (EGR) valve if it is defective. Your engine has a knock sensor that detects this noise and tells the computer to retard the ignition timing. Engine spark knock may occur when the engine is working hard under load causing the (PCM) to retard timing.
What causes spark knock on 87 octane fuel?
These changes will increase engine power but, also the risk of engine spark knock on regular 87 octane fuel. Engines that are supercharged or turbocharged are also at a much higher risk. This is because, the forced air induction system increases compression. High back pressure is a common exhaust system problem.
Why does my engine knock when I Turn on the ignition?
NOTE: Over advanced ignition timing can also cause the same thing. The engine computer controls ignition timing. As a result, ignition timing is not adjustable on today’s engines. The only way to change the timing advance would be to flash reprogram the (PCM).

Where was the ignition located on my 93 S-10 Blazer?
My old 93 S-10 blazer had an internal Ignition Module, inside the bottom of the distributor. I know this much, if those little PIA’s start winking out, you will see all kinds of issues similar to what you are describing.
When does engine knock occur in a car?
Engine knock is usually only harmful when it happens at high loads, such as when you’re at full throttle. Cruising knock happens while driving at a constant speed. Cruising knock is very common and much less concerning.
