Why does my Duramax 6600 engine knock when idle?

Why does my Duramax 6600 engine knock when idle?

And it still doesn’t make the knock sound at all when it’s cold, which corresponds to not showing injector balance rates being far off until it’s warmed up a bit. When it’s cold I can even touch the gas pedal and raise the RPMs up to 2,500 and then back down to idle, no knock, then when it warms up it starts knocking.

Why does my Duramax make a heavy knock sound?

It also doesn’t run unevenly making the vehicle shake when it’s cold (runs smooth,) but at the same engine RPM when warmed up (to normal operating temperature or at least blowing out heat from the vents) it makes a very heavy knock sound that scares me, it’s so loud. I let the vehicle cool down (it’s 15 degrees f) and tried it again 2 hours later.

Why do I hear a knock when I start the engine?

The knock you hear from the injector is from it not doing a pilot injection cycle, which softens the detonation prior to full combustion. Only other thing i could point a finger too would be the wrist pin the the piston, which can also cause a knock.

What causes engine knock on Duramax 6600 V8?

UPDATE Issue found. $106 in diagnostics and it is the #7 injector i just replaced, Its faulty. The knock goes away when they increase power demand on the injector at idle.

Why is my Duramax diesel engine not working?

The trucks computer keeps track of how much fuel needs to be added or subtracted from each individual cylinder to make the engine run smoothly, and this value is called the balance rate. If one cylinder is contributing too much or not as much as the rest, the cause is usually a bad injector and the cure is a replacement.

Are there any problems with the LLY Duramax?

In terms of LLY injector problems, GM had sorted out the internal failures with the 2004 ½ redesign, but the LLY Duramax would occasionally exhibit a trouble code for the injectors, but in most cases it turned out to be an issue with the injector harness rubbing through and causing a short or open in the wiring.

Can a 6.6 liter diesel engine start in cold weather?

At 6.6 liters, these engines (and all other diesels) are big hunks of metal. Because metal absorbs heat, and there is so much of it, starting a diesel engine in cold weather can be a challenge. The internal combustion temps have difficulty getting hot enough to ignite fuel and start the engine.
