I guess that they felt no need for that security feature and they saved a boat load of money not putting them in. You know I am not sure if the wheel locked before.

I cannot tell you if the noise/sensation you are getting is from the cheap GM gear lube or if there is a real problem.

Why is my Silverado G80 not unlocking at the rear?
Its possible its the lubricant is not working and things are binding on turns. Hard to say without actually driving it though. When you turn one rear wheel has to turn faster than the other and if there is any slippage the G80 could engage momentarily and then release causing a bump feel or noise.
