Premium Member. The 4L60E will bolt straight up to your 350. :yes: You will need some way to control the tranny though. The OD is electronically controlled, hence the “E” at the end of the 4L60.
Is there a bolt hole in the 4L60E?
The 4L60E with the 300mm input shaft also have the 12 O’Clock bolt hole in the bell housing. The bell housing also has a bolt hole at 2 O’Clock, but it is not used with LS engines. If you are really determined to make this work, it is rumored that a custom converter can be made; not sure how expensive that would be.
Can a post 98 4L60E hit a SBC 350?
The LS crankshaft is very short, hence the spacer. However, as far as I can tell, the opposite won’t work – a post ’98 4L60E with torque converter will hit the back of the SBC crank long before the bellhousing bolts up. In the following ls1tech post I show pictures of different input shafts so that you can confirm exactly what you have.
Is the Pan bolt pattern the same on all 4L60E transmissions?
The transmission pan bolt pattern is the same, regardless of the year that the 4L60E was made. They have the same gearing, regardless of what year or model that they are from, so you don’t need to worry about that. One of the main differences in the earlier and later 4L60E transmissions is the bellhousing area.
Are there torque converters for the Chevy 4L60E?
Whenever I order parts for a 4L60E the parts are specified by the year mostly. Torque converters on the other hand go by engine size. Now when the 4L65E came out, it was a heavier duty version of the 4L60E. The 65 had a heavy duty sun shell and 5 pinion planets in the factory units.

What kind of transmission does a Chevy 4L60E have?
When it was introduced, the original small-block Chevy engine was still in production, and it was retained for the LS Gen III line of engines. The 4L60E bellhousing can bolt to either engine, although you may need an adapter to get a Gen III transmission to bolt to Gens I and II and vice versa.
Can a Chevy 4L60E be used in a big block truck?
The easiest way to adapt an electronic 4L60E to an earlier Gen I small- or big-block Chevy is to use one of the earlier small-block 4L60E boxes located behind small-blocks used in trucks and pre-’98 cars.
