Our electronic tolling system is based on highly-advanced military technology and uses precision equipment aligned with lasers to read a transponder signal and/or take images of a licence plate – even at vehicle speeds greater than 200 km/h.
What is a 407 ETR transponder?
A transponder is a small electronic device that you attach to the interior of the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. If you travel Highway 407 more than six times a year, a transponder will save you money by avoiding Camera Charges.

How far east can you go on the 407?
Highway 407 ETR extends 108 km (67 miles) from the QEW/403 (Burlington, ON) in the west to Brock Road (Pickering, ON) in the east. There are 198 ramps on 407 ETR to conveniently enter or exit the highway.
Is a 407 transponder worth it?

How do you use the 407 transponder?
Inside the vehicle, the transponder is to be mounted in the centre of the windshield behind the rear-view mirror, 5–10 cm from the top of your windshield. If the front windshield is divided in the centre by a vertical metal strip, mount the transponder at least 5 cm to the right of the strip.

How can I pay my 407 bill without a transponder?
407 ETR offers several convenient ways to pay your bill:
- Online.
- Through pre-authorized payments.
- Through your financial institution’s online banking, telephone banking, or at the teller using your 407 account number.
- By cheque.
- By telephone.
- In person at 407 ETR’s Customer Service Centre.
Is the 407 finished to 115?
The Ontario government has announced the final stretch of Highway 407 — connecting the 407 to Highway 35/115 — and Highway 418 will be open to drivers beginning Monday, December 9th. The Highway 7 East project, a toll road owned by the Ontario government, was originally scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Yes, you may transfer a transponder between vehicles as long as they are of the same vehicle class. There are penalties for using a transponder in a different vehicle class (i.e. Car transponder in a tractor- trailer.) Please be sure that all vehicles using the transponder are listed on your EZ Pass account.
What to do with a 407 ETR transponder?
Please note to wrap the transponder in aluminum foil if you are returning the transponder by mail, so that the courier company’s charges are not billed to your account if they use the 407 ETR. Also please mail it in a bubble wrap envelope to prevent damage and avoid damage charges to your account.
How long does it take to install an ETR transponder?
Installation is easy, requires no tools and can be done in less than two minutes. Each transponder has an individual, proprietary encrypted identification that is picked up by entry and exit sensors. Tolls are calculated electronically and are applied to your account.
What kind of car is compatible with 407 ETR?
407 ETR is pleased to announce that our tolling system is compatible with select transponder-equipped vehicles. We use the term transponder-equipped vehicle to describe any car with built-in transponder capabilities. This includes ITM devices currently found in select Audi models.
Who is responsible for camera charges on 407 ETR?
However, if you do so, you will be responsible for all charges, including Camera Charges, that may result from such use. Important note: If you use your transponder in a rented vehicle, you are responsible for the charges that appear on your 407 ETR bill.
