How do you adjust the idle speed on a fuel injected motorcycle?
How do you adjust the idle speed on a fuel injected motorcycle?
On some fuel-injected motorcycles, there is a knob sticking out the side of your bike near the engine compartment. You can just turn this knob clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the idle speed.
How does fuel injection control the idle speed?
Early fuel injection normally uses an idle air control or IAC valve to control the speed of the engine’s idle. They use several designs, but most work in a similar manner. On early vehicles, General Motors often uses a stepper motor that turns a thread valve.
Where is the idle plug on a GM TBI?
Plug the vacuum lines with golf tees or other suitable item. Remove plug over the idle screw located on the right front of the throttle body by using a hammer to drive a punch into the plug and then using the punch to pry the plug out of the throttle body.
What happens to an engine when the idle circuit fails?
The idle circuit eases the transition and allows a more controlled reduction of speed. When the idle circuit fails, the engine may stall when we suddenly release the throttle. A driver often sees this as the engine dying, but failure to idle is very different from a standpoint of diagnosis.
Where is the idle air control valve located?
The valve is a major management component of the engine which will either decrease or increase the number of revolutions per minute, depending on what the current operating conditions call for. The valve is connected to the throttle body next to the intake manifold.

How does a MerCruiser engine work at idle?
When I start the engine from cold, I allow the engine to warm up at idle. This goes smoothly everytime. When I rev up the engine, either in neutral or under load, the engine works fine.

Is the idle set screw capped from the factory?
On a factory TBI unit the idle set screw will be capped from the factory so you cannot mess with it. But you just knew one day you would. Not all caps look like the one pictured but this is the one that is hardest to remove.
