Why is my Silverado 6 speed transmission giving me fits?
Why is my Silverado 6 speed transmission giving me fits?
I now have 6k miles on it and I’m ready to get rid of it. The 6 speed tranny is giving me fits as it tries to get into 4th gear at 25-3o mph and when I try to give it gas or speed up, it can’t decide which gear to go into and just sputters and chugs until I stomp on it and it takes off like a rocket.
Where does the flushing fluid go in a transmission?
Flushing is the process by which the new, fresh fluid forces out the old, using the transmission’s pump to do the pushing. The transmission pan (the pan on the bottom side of the transmission) holds only one-third to a half of the fluid. A large amount is stored in the transmission’s torque converter.
Do you have to change Trans fluid every 30K?
As far as the trans if the fluid still looks decent and doesn’t have a strong burnt fuid odor then go ahead and change it. If it’s nasty and has a silvery look to it changing it may cause problems. As far as the antifreeze I prefer green to dexcool but dexcool isn’t bad as long as its maintaned. If it is flushed every 30k it will be fine.
Can you drive a GM Silverado with a manual transmission?
You wouldn’t drive a manual that way. On top of that, GM programmed the computer to back off on power when you mash the small pedal at a traffic light. You can get a “tune”; but, people say it voids the GM warranty. I use the M selection and keep the transmission in 4th, or sometimes into 5th.
When to do a full flush on a Silverado Sierra?
I did a full flush six months after I bought my truck used but I had less than 25k on it and didn’t know the history. At 120k you might have varnish build up that could get knocked loose. DON’T flush.
When do you do a full transmission flush?
I agree with the pan drop and filter,, then next oil change do another pan drop, then maybe one more depending on clarity and color of trans fluid. I did a full flush six months after I bought my truck used but I had less than 25k on it and didn’t know the history.
Which is better transmission flush or pan drop?
The alternative, as explained to me by the trans shop would be a pan drop with filter. Then refill and cycle through gears. Then, repeat 3-4 more times and you’ll effectively get most of the old fluid out with a flush… Of course, you would need multiple filters and gaskets and way more fluid, and that could more than triple the cost..

What’s the legal 6 speed on a Silverado?
I have the same 6 speed and usually “around town” legal speed is 30 mph. My truck wants to be in 6th gear and V4 mode most of the time. 5th gear is overdrive, 6 th gear is the 2nd overdrive. 30 mph in overdrive!!!!!!!
What causes shift marks to change on Silverado?
If you went to larger tires, the truck needs to be reprogrammed for the larger tire so the electronic controlled trans can adjust the proper shift marks. MPH, RPM and vacuum, temperature all affect shift patterns and maybe throttle sensor thrown in the mix.
